Darkness

Are "unlit tunnels" totally unlit? How is darkness really defined? 

The darkness we know is the relative absence of light, in contrast to what we know as brightness. It is the lack of simulation of the rods and cones in our eyes.

But have any of us gone that deep into a cave to know true darkness or the total absence of light? We only know that we are in an area of darkness for we have seen the light elsewhere.

    First off your pictures are awesome and the thought behind total darkness is very interesting. I have been deep enough in a cave to experience what we call total darkness and it is indeed a very weird sensation.
