Bam

Wake up feeling like I'd been run over by a truck. Oh right, that did happen.

The moment right before my bike came into contact with the truck, it seemed as if everything slowed down. The colors around seemed to have lost saturation.

The importance of light.

Too much light and you're blinded by the glare,
too little light and you don't know what's where.

The rain was scattering the light, making things darker, and the sky was darker, diminishing our ability to see contrast between colors of objects. That, added to the Mandelbaum Effect where people focus on a really short range when visibility is poor.

No, this isn't a cool camera effect, and no, you aren't under the influence of any substance when you look at this photograph.
