We have gone from fireflies in jars to candles in paper bags to electric lights in decorative enclosures.
Lanterns for festivals, sky lanterns that bring wishes to the heavens, lanterns saying Black Door Market in Osaka, Japan, and lanterns decorated by children in Hualien, Taiwan.
We need light, and we need to be able to carry light with us. Before we could capture the sun in Nokero lights or had battery-powered flashlights, we had lanterns to enable and increase visibility.
